The English Lake District In Autumn – Day Trip – October 2017

One Day Photography Workshop With A Fine Art Print Competition For The Best Series Of Images – SUNDAY OCTOBER 22nd 2017 – £75.00

Join us for a full days landscape photography workshop in Britain’s best loved National Park, during its most enchanting season and enjoy a little healthy competition between your fellow photographers! Meeting at 7.20am just as the sun is coming up over Lakeland, we will enjoy a full day of photo making, with an emphasis on recording natures Autumnal beauty. The challenge is to create a series of 3 images that best represent Autumn in the National Park. An online judging and critique session will follow with the best overall image being produced as a fine art print for the photographers personal portfolio. The itinerary takes in photographic hotspots around the Central Lake District with an action packed day of shooting, walking and adventuring in this stunningly beautiful part of the British Isles. During mid October, we anticipate that the Autumn colours will be at their most glorious, perfect for striking photographs.

Stock Ghyll Force In Autumn

We will begin our day at Loughrigg Tarn, an easily accessible viewpoint that offers great scope for a sunrise session, with a treelined shore set to a backdrop of the Langdale Pikes. In close vicinity, we have opportunities for spectacular Autumn woodland scenes at Clappersgate Bridge and we can experiment with long exposures at Stockghyll Force. Ambleside will give us a great place to stop for a bite to eat, before moving into Grassmere and Rydal Water for lakeside images and the a chance to shoot the wonderfully picturesque waterfall at Rydal House. From here, we head over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, dropping into Patterdale and skirting the Western shores of Ullswater, with limitless opportunities for photographs along the way.

We plan to finish along Ullswater, the perfect place to end on a high and the closest lake to our route home on the A66.

Waterfall at Rydal House

The areas that we will be visiting offer a huge range of photographic subjects to explore. This is an ideal opportunity to practice enhancing colours and reducing reflections using your polarising filters. Experiment with camera settings to achieve the most desirable results “in-camera” to create the best possible RAW files to be submitted for judging. Pro Photographer Michael Cartwright will be on hand to offer his help and expertise, while encouraging you to create your own brand of images. It’s a great way to head out into the landscape with like minded people who enjoy the photographic process. Our sessions are friendly and relaxed while shooting in a group provides safety and support.

Once we are back home you have 3 days to edit and submit your 3 finished jpegs along with the original RAW files for critique and assessment by Michael. Private feedback will be given to each photographer via email and an overall winner announced on our social media. The best image from the most successful photographers series of 3 will be produced as a high quality, fine art print for their personal portfolio.

A good level of walking fitness is required to fully enjoy our outings, although this particular trip will not include any arduous hiking. We will be largely staying at a low level.
