Winter In The Lakes – Landscape Workshop

One Day Photography Workshop With A Fine Art Print Competition For The Best Series Of Images – SUNDAY JANUARY 21st 2018 – £95.00

Join us for a full day landscape photography workshop in Britain’s best loved National Park, during the stunningly beautiful Winter season, and enjoy a little healthy competition between your fellow photographers! Meeting at 7.30am just as the sun is coming up over Lakeland, we will enjoy a full day of photo making in the great outdoors. The challenge is to create a series of 3 images that show the beauty of the National Park in Winter. An online judging and critique session will follow with the best overall image being produced as a fine art print for the photographers personal portfolio.

The itinerary takes in photographic hotspots around the Northern Lake District with an action packed day of shooting, walking and adventuring in this fabulous part of the British Isles. During late January, we anticipate that the fells will be covered with at least a dusting of snow, perfect for striking photographs. In previous years we have enjoyed full winter conditions and we hope for more of the same.

We will begin our day on the Eastern side of the Ullswater, ascending Halin Fell for dramatic views into Martindale and across to the Helvellyn Range. In close vicinity, we have opportunities for spectacular scenes around the nearby valleys, with a host of mountains in every direction. From here, we head over to the North of the Lake to shoot panoramic views of Ullswater and the famous boat house on the North Western shore. As we continue West around the Lake, we will have countless opportunities for striking photographs, before stopping in the picturesque village of Glenridding for a bite to eat and more views looking back across Ullswater.

The afternoon will be spent either moving into Patterdale, creating long exposures at Aira Force waterfall or shooting panoramic views from Gowbarrow Fell. There are a myriad of subjects to shoot and we will need to assess the local conditions before making a decision.

The areas that we will be visiting offer a huge range of photographic subjects to explore. This is an ideal opportunity to shoot dramatic Winter scenes and to experiment with camera settings to achieve the most desirable results. Pro Photographer Michael Cartwright will be on hand to offer his help and expertise, while encouraging you to create your own brand of images. It’s a great way to head out into the landscape with like minded people who enjoy the photographic process. Our sessions are friendly and relaxed while shooting in a group provides safety and support.

Once we are back home you have 3 days to edit and submit your 3 finished jpegs along with the original RAW files for critique and assessment by Michael. Private feedback will be given to each photographer via email and an overall winner announced on our social media. The best image from the most successful photographers series of 3 will be produced as a high quality, fine art print for their personal portfolio.

A good level of walking fitness is required to fully enjoy our outings and winter hiking clothes are absolutely essential. Layer up!

Suitable for LEVEL 2 INTERMEDIATE photographers who have knowledge of shooting at manual and semi-automatic settings.

In order to obtain the best possible image quality, a tripod and filters are highly advised.
